I asked a great Italian cook (from the heart of a Bronx Italian neighborhood) for some of her old family recipes. She wrote to me and said that this book was an excellent accumulation of family recipes from Italian families everywhere. The recipes are wonderful, easy, and have received rave reviews. This book brings back wonderful memories for me! I was fortunate enough to grow up two doors away from an Italian lady, Julia, who made wonderful homemade pasta dishes. She made huge family meals and would share the leftovers with my family! I have been a lover of Italian food ever since. I don't live near Julia anymore, so she suggested that I buy this book and make my own Italian meals. I am happy to report that the recipes are simple, delicious, and reminiscent of the Italian cooking I grew up with. I would recommend this book and book 2... to anyone who loves authentic Italian food.

Is a cookbook published in 1991 - its purpose is to preserve wonderful and nostalgic Italian recipes before they are lost forever. The Sons of Italy members from the State of Florida contributed cherished family recipes and from those recipes and recipes from other members of the Sons of Italy in Florida, PRESERVING OUR ITALIAN HERITAGE was published. This book won second place in the McElhenny Hall of Fame for ethnic cookbooks! It is now in its ninth printing with more than 100,000 copies in print.

It features recipes from members of Sons of Italy lodges throughout the State of Florida. These Old World recipes are known to many, but seldom written out, said local (Fort Walton Beach, Florida) lodge member and first Cookbook Team Leader, Gloria Scalzitti Walker, who has three recipes of her own in the book. Editor, Rose Marie Boniello, said this is the culmination of many long hours of dedicated work and through its medium we are sharing some truly treasured recipes.
