Zuppa Granddaughter Alyssa Ansell and Major Leon, USMC

Alyssa is the daughter of Bill & Chieko Zuppa's daughter Donna & husband Wade Ansell

Alyssa is a leukemia patient at Scottish Rite Childrens Hospital. Her chemo level came down so that she was able to come home. She was so excited to be home--she felt good and went for a walk with a friend, first thing!

She was in the hospital a little longer than expected. While there, Alyssa had a special visit from one of the soldiers in the Marine Corps. One of Alyssa's neighbors, Barbara, brought Major Leon by to visit. He's from the unit in Iraq that Barbara, Alyssa and several other children packaged goodies for last year. He's back from Iraq and made a trip in to see Alyssa. It made her day! (some of the nurses want to meet him, too!) He presented Alyssa with a Marine bear with dog tags and a Marine Medal. We wish you well on your next trip, Leon!

Alyssa is home for the rest of this week and looking forward to enjoying some sunshine and outdoor activities! Depending on her counts, her next planned hospital stay is scheduled for Monday, April 7th. She also sends her heartfelt thanks to all of the Sons of Italy members who continue to keep her in their prayers.

Sgt John Basilone

Marine Corp Medal of Honor recipient, Sgt John Basilone, is first cousin to our very own charter member Carlo Forte. Sgt John Basilone was recently honored by the US Post Office with a stamp issued in his name. The John Basilone stamp features a detail of a 1943 photograph of Sgt Basilone and the insignia of the 5th Marine Division. Sgt Basilone served and died with the 1st Battalion, 27th Marine Regiment, 5th Marine Division during the invasion of Iwo Jima in February 1945.
